Patients living in Devon and Cornwall are being invited to take up the offer of an invite to the Lung Cancer Screening programme.
Lung cancer is frequently diagnosed at a later stage than other cancers because often there are no signs or symptoms at an early stage. The Lung Cancer Screening Programme is a new pilot scheme designed to identify signs of cancer at an early stage when it is much more treatable - ultimately saving move lives.
Patients aged between 55 and under 75 years old, who have ever smoked, will be invited by a provider called InHealth to be screened for a lung health check.
We are aware that some of our patients here at Dean Cross have already been screened and we have also had calls from patients wondering if it is a scam. We are pleased to say it is not - it is a pilot scheme being rolled out across Cornwall and Devon, working with Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust.
